Gold Miners' Knowledge, Attitudes & Practices with regard to Mercury, WWF and GOMIAM - 2014
SUMMARY:
This report presents the results of a Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) study among small-scale gold miners in Suriname. The study was commissioned and funded by the research network on small-scale GOld MIning in the AMazon (GOMIAM) and WWF Guianas. Its primary objectives are to document the movement of mercury in the small-scale gold mining cycle; analyze gold miners’ knowledge about mercury and its health effects; and assess gold miners’ attitudes with regard to mercury use and the possible elimination of mercury from the mining process.
