Migrant & mobile populations and access to HIV services in gold mining areas in Suriname. Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV & AIDS (PANCAP) - 2012
SUMMARY:
This report presents the results of a study on the accessibility and quality of HIV prevention, care, and treatment services for migrant and mobile populations in the small-scale gold mining sector in Suriname, South America. Fieldwork took place in January-February 2012 in 12 gold mining sites distributed over four larger mining regions in the districts of Brokopondo and Sipaliwini in Suriname. Fieldwork focused on migrant and mobile individuals who were working in one of the visited gold mining areas during the study period. Research methods included a quantitative survey, focus groups and group interviews.
